Phone On The Wind
The vintage rotary-dial wall phone is in the Labyrinth Healing Garden in Port Moody. It's not connected because words spoken into it are meant to flow into the wind — giving the phone its name. (Ben Nelms/CBC); CBC: How an unconnected telephone in a B.C. park is helping people mourn lost loved ones

Diez Vista 50K
A fun time running Diez Vista 50K this weekend. I would have come in first overall but there were 193 other runners who were faster than me. Windy cold and raining at times, but had a blast. 30.03 miles 7,671 feet 7:28:26. Garmin track. Results.

Around The Lake Give 'R Take 30K
Had a blast running around Cultus Lake Chilliwack yesterday doing Around the Lake 30K. So much fun racing with others. A beautiful course with some good climbs; it was soggy and overcast but not raining on us. 18.7 miles 4,600 feet 3:51:06. The Garmin track went wonky in parts, most obvious in the elevation profile. Results.

Frosty Mountain 50K DNF
DNFd at the Frosty Mountain 50K yesterday. Missed the cutoff at the last aid station by 10 minutes. Was totally bummed but grateful for a beautiful day on a tough, gorgeous course, supported by wonderful people. The snow-covered scree on the peak was something I've never experienced in an ultra. The wind was brutal. Challenging. Later when the skies cleared the views were amazing. 27 miles; 8,600' vertical; 7 hrs 43 min. Gratitude.

Fort Frenzy 6 Hour
Another challenge today. The Fort Frenzy 6 Hour. I managed 26 miles and 5,000' on Burnaby Mountain. We're in the middle of a heat wave. It was really hot (30+ C) and humid. Smoke from nearby forest fires made things worse. The usually-busy trails had few people; I had the trailhead to myself. I saw two ravens cooling off in the only stream still flowing on the south side of the mountain. Beautiful creatures.

Metal Fatigue
About a month and 400km ago, Luna and I took a tumble with our bike+dog-crate rig. Fortunately we weren't hurt. But the down tube of the bike frame was bent a bit. Still rideable though. It finally failed yesterday. We had a very slow ride home. But we made it. A Trek FX2. A good bike.

Angela Bailey
Angela Bailey, the Canadian women's record holder in the 100 metres sprint and an Olympic 4x100 relay silver medal winner, has died after battling cancer under complicated conditions. She was 59 years old. Bailey's 1987 Canadian women's 100-metre sprint record time of 10.98 seconds still stands today. She was also part of the women's silver medal winning 4x100 metres relay team at the 1984 Games in Los Angeles. ~ cbc.ca
